'World Class' Status for Harris Academy Beckenham

After a year of hard work and commitment from our students we deservedly join only 50 schools in the country to achieve World Class Status. World Class Schools are those schools judged 'outstanding' by Ofsted working beyond outstanding to improve student progress, aspiration and achievement to such an extent that their standards rival those of the best schools internationally.

World Class School

There are three stages to achieving this status with each stage reducing the number of schools that are successful. Stage one required one of the WCS project managers to visit our Academy and meet with our students and staff to see if we truly had the potential to be on the roster of World Class Status.

After this, a group of six students had to be selected to meet the nine objectives within the ‘life in a week of a HABE student’ This involved creating a 15-minute information video and gathering evidence, all in just one week! Well done to our Head Boy (Oscar) and Head Girl (Natalie) who led this group of students extremely well through the course of the week.

The final stage came three months later where three students travelled to Reading for the assessment centre. This involved an Apprentice-like task where students had to communicate with other schools in their group up and down the country prior to the day. The challenge for students was to create a futuristic classroom and then present and take questions from industry leading experts. Well done to Ellie (Year 10), Isaac (Year 9) and Tom (Year 9) who represented the Academy exceptionally well at the final stage!

Students and staff attended Cambridge University to receive the award. Our students are truly World Class!
