Careers Speed Networking Event Inspires Year 13
In October we welcomed 35 guests from The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) to speak to our Year 13 students about the careers and pathways they took to get where they are today.
The aim of the event was not only to develop the soft skills required as our students move closer to entering the workplace, but also to help our students explore different careers paths. We were fortunate enough to welcome people from a wide variety of industries including banking, photography, insurance and finance, architecture, journalism and law.
The event began with a workshop on developing a CV from Chrysalis and then ‘how to be genius in 21 days’. This was followed by a presentation from Lord Harris and Chandra Sharma from FSB, energising the students for the speed networking session.
During the speed networking session, the students had one minute to talk to each business before the hooter hailed the students to move on to another volunteer. The buzz in the hall was electric. Students developed their self-confidence with every person they spoke to.
The feedback from both businesses and students was incredibly positive. Many of the students have been provided opportunities by the businesses to extend their interests further via work experience and interview practice.
We would like to express our thanks to everyone who took part however with special mentions to Chandra and Sarah from FSB for ensuring that the event was a resounding success.
