Admissions Consultation

Harris Academy Beckenham – admissions consultation

The Governing Body are consulting on proposals to make changes to the admissions arrangements with effect from the 2019/20 year of entry.

The consultation follows what was formerly known as Bromley Road Primary School joining the Federation as Harris Primary Academy Beckenham Green. Parents in the discussions prior to them joining asked if it would be possible for the pupils to have priority for admission to the local Harris secondary schools. The Academy will be working with them to assist them to deliver a curriculum in Years 5 and 6 that prepares children better for secondary school, so knowing they can join us in Year 7 will maximise the benefit of this co-operation.

It is not proposed to alter the admission number for year 7, or to amend the use of banded admissions, but to make changes to the priority for admission within each band. We now have a sibling priority as second priority after Looked After and previously Looked After Children. We would like then to have a third priority for children attending Harris Primary Academy Beckenham Green before all children are then allocated to the remaining places on distance criteria.

Even if all the pupils at Harris Primary Academy Beckenham Green opted to join us the places taken up would only be about 30 of the 180 available so we feel that children attending other schools will still have a good chance of obtaining a place here.

If you have any comments on these proposals please write by Wednesday 31st January to Lyahna Garry, Clerk to the Governing Body, at the Academy address; or email to
