FFC Squad Update

All students have been involved in a rigorous pre-season schedule, starting on the 6th of July they have been training 3 times per week for the duration of the summer in preparation for the new academic year. The training has involved tactical and physical sessions as well as shaping the students behaviour so that they are in a strong position to start school in September.

In addition to this we have been running extra gym sessions at FFC training facility to further prepare students for the year ahead. A lot of the work in the gym will link nicely with students who are studying A-level PE or BTEC sport as they are following a tailored programme to enhance their sporting performance and prevent injury.

Monday 14th September saw our 1st team compete in the first league game of the season against Portsmouth FC. Having lost 4-0 to this team last year we knew it was going to be a tough test. Fulham started the game brightly and had 3 chances in the first 20 minutes but unfortunately we could not convert these chances to goals. Against the run of play Portsmouth went ahead when a misjudged clearance caused Fulham to score an own goal.

One-nil down but player spirits were high, Fulham continued to dominate possession resulting in a great move down the left hand side which saw Reggie Young score his first goal of the season. Reggie was one of 2 first year students playing in an already established first team squad. Fulham continued to work hard in possession and on 70 minutes we were rewarded when Haitam Ajban received the ball just outside the 18yard box and fired into the top corner (an early contender for goal of the season).

Fulham settled to protect their lead through tireless defending for the remaining 15 minutes of the game resulting in 2-1 win. An important victory, boosting moral and demonstrates how their efforts have paid off and reinforced the need for students to stay on top of their workload/academic studies which in turn allows the success on pitch to continue.

Moving into next week our study support sessions will begin (Mondays) allowing all students to put additional time into their work or catch up on anything they may have missed this week. We will also be strictly enforcing their punctuality to school in the mornings and those who are late will be banned from training on that day.

Upcome fixtures include:

1st Team away to Tottenham

2nd Team home to Woking FC
