Students learn to use the target language from the outset. This is achieved through routines, songs and games. Students develop their language skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing and learn pronunciation and fluency through pair and group work. Year 7 topics include family; free time; school; home life; greetings and personal information. Developing a knowledge of Spanish culture is embedded in the curriculum and supported by trips to Spain.
The Year 8 curriculum builds on the skills and knowledge acquired in Year 7 with a focus on broadening the students’ knowledge of grammar, especially verb tenses. Students are required to produce extended pieces of writing which include a variety of vocabulary and grammatical structures. Year 8 topics include daily routine; weather; holidays; TV and films; food and drink and using the past tense. Students develop their fluency in Spanish through a variety of student-led activities.
