After a year of hard work and commitment from our students we deservedly join only 50 schools in the country to achieve World Class Status. World Class Schools are those schools judged 'outstanding' by Ofsted working beyond outstanding to improve student progress, aspiration and achievement to such an extent that their standards rival those of the best schools internationally.

Students and staff attended Cambridge University to receive the award. Our students are truly World Class!

Building a Successful Reading Culture through the Academy Library

At HABE, reading is embedded throughout our curriculum. Reading ability is part of the foundations for success both inside and outside of school. Therefore, the academy requires all students to be readers; at all opportunities, they are motivated, supported and encouraged to read. Reading is celebrated throughout the whole academy: there’s reading displays, top readers are celebrated in faculty assemblies and reading records are included in Parents’ Consultation Evening.

We use Accelerated Reader to monitor student engagement in reading. With every Accelerated Reader quiz,  students take, they’re one step closer to winning some fantastic prizes. Examples of the top prizes include Principal’s Breakfast, cinema tickets, Book vouchers and Kindle Fire Tablets for our top readers.

Throughout the week, as well as reading opportunities within lessons, there are numerous times in which students can enjoy reading for pleasure. On four separate opportunities throughout the week, students participate in independent reading. This includes three morning sessions in which we have DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) sessions and one timetabled Library Lesson.  These sessions give students the opportunity to engage in independent, silent reading within their reading lesson.

Within the library, there is a diverse selection of books that students can choose from and student can recommend new titles to be brought. The calm, quiet and academic environment within the library supports students as they can visit the library to complete independent work. Our spacious LRC is loved by all and is always in use with students reading and doing other work. Every Tuesday lunch time there’s a reading club which is popular among our students. They are particularly fond of the inviting bean bags or rugs; students like to spend their lunches reclined and relaxed, fully immersed in their reading.

World Book Day celebrations are embeded at HABE!
