Why We Encourage Home Learning
Home Learning supports students in making progress with their learning; at Harris Academy Beckenham we believe that independent learning has value in teaching our students vital life skills such as independence, personal organisation, reliability and self-discipline. It teaches them to see the value of hard work and that hard work leads to success.
How We Promote Home Learning at Harris Academy Beckenham:
At HABE we promote in five ways:
- All Home Learning is supported with a student and parent guide to promote success
- All home learning is relevant and clearly linked to the Big Picture of what knowledge and skills need to be secured
- Home Learning is set in a variety of formats to engage and support deliberate practise e.g. Hegarty Maths, Bedrock English, Tassomai Science to name a few.
- All Home Learning is modelled around the theory of deliberate practise.
- All Home Learning is aimed to interleave the learning of all students by testing the student’s prior knowledge and understanding.
