HABE Sports Day 2015

On the 19th June 2015 the sun was shining through the clearing morning clouds, over 200
Academy students were in nervous anticipation of competing for their faculty; it was time for HABE Sports Day 2015 to begin. ….

And what a day it was, stars were born, records were broken and heroes were made. The hard work of the PE Department paid off and an amazing show of sporting talent was enjoyed by all. But who better to put it into words than some of our successful competitors.

As I stepped cautiously up to the starting line, my heart was pounding violently. Butterflies fluttered in my stomach as a wave of emotions flooded over me. The atmosphere was electric and as the word ‘GO’ was announced, I felt a surge of adrenaline. The 800m race involved two arduous laps of the field and as I neared the last 100m, I used my last ounce of energy and sprinted to the finish line... the crowd erupted into applause and cheering; I caught my breath as they continued to roar for the other competitors. The race was over and I took my well-earned place in the gold medal position on the podium.

Molly Wise- Year 9.

“Being my first year at the Academy I wanted to take part in as much as possible to make the most of the day. I competed in the 800m and surprisingly came 1st.  Then I competed in the 4x100m relay with three of my friends. Despite the hot weather and the tiredness we did fantastically well showing great resilience, coming in 1st place. The crowd was electrifying with all four faculties battling out for points. The day ended on a cliff-hanger as we will not find out the winners until that last day of term in the celebration assembly.

Poppy Watts- Year 7

Harris sports day was a great experience for the high jumpers. Everyone cheering you on, chanting your name and you making your faculty proud. When I was doing the high jump, it was very, very competitive especially when people are better than you but you always have to show resilience. Either way it was fun and an enjoyable time watching how others perform so you can improve for next year or later in life. I am really looking forwards to sports day again next year!

Joel McLeod- Year 8

We now look forward to our winners successfully representing the academy at the prestigious Harris Federation Games!
