Nearing the End of Our First Ever Rugby season

Our results have shown significant improvements since last term with the U13s winning two out of their three games, having lost a match against the Charter School by only 4 points! Whilst the U12s haven’t won as many matches, they have shown great determination and strived to make significant improvements as a team which should deliver more wins next season.  They did, however, have a fantastic victory against the Leigh Technology Academy from Dartford, who they beat 20-5. Some of the stars of these teams, who’ve made significant strides in their skills, are Alex Cook, Lewis Findlay, Joe Fan and Tyrease Hizzard: Well done for all your hard work!

Since the Beckenham Schools U13 floodlit tournament in December, we now have eleven boys enrolled at Beckenham Rugby Club: Gabriel Murdoch, Tony Ngounou, Kervell Bernard-Moore, Alfie Burn, Jake Bale, Ben Partridge, Cameron Mills, Nathan Phipps, Joshua Chambers, Theo Amoah, and Patrick Guckian, with more expected during the remainder of the season.  This is a new partnership between Harris Academy Beckenham and Beckenham Rugby Club that was established to encourage more students to take up playing Rugby at club level and provide an incentive to keep up their progress.

I would like to say thank you to Jack Bale for donating his Jack Petchey award money to HABE Rugby.  This has been put towards buying trophies for the end of season awards ceremony.

Going forward there are some exciting things on the horizon; we are awaiting delivery of our new Rugby kit which has been purchased by the Harris Federation, taking part in the Kent Schools 7’s tournament in Rochester, planning our Rugby Tour for next season and introducing Rugby to our female students in September 2015.  We are also looking forward to an U12s floodlit match against Beckenham RFC after Easter.

With the Rugby World Cup being held in England in the autumn of 2015, there will be many opportunities for our students to participate in and watch rugby at the highest international level, which should inspire them even more for next season.

Congratulations to all involved and many thanks for all your help and inspiration!
