Kindness at HABE - Living Well Foodbank Donations

Recently, local service Living Well noted on their Facebook page that they are experiencing a challenging time with the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.  Despite these difficulties they were initially able to keep their food bank and other services running throughout.  However, they recently found their stocks to be very low and struggled to fill their food bags with enough items.  A couple of weeks ago their container, usually filled with supplies ready for their foodbank sessions, was almost empty.

Living Well are based in Penge and run a foodbank every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.  The demand for food continues to grow and they give out over 200 bags of food per week. They rely almost entirely on donations of food from generous supporters in the local community.  Unlike other foodbanks, they do not operate a voucher system and never turn anyone away.

The demands on their services continue to increase and they rely on generous donations to be there for everyone who needs the service. They are grateful for all donations but at the moment they really need:

  • Tinned meat
  • Tinned fish
  • Tinned vegetables
  • Tinned fruit
  • Tinned pulses
  • Long life milk

In addition to the items above, we too would like to help supply the service with some ‘treats’ that can be enjoyed alongside the vital items listed above. Living Well have advised that the items such as biscuits or chocolates with long expiry dates would be very welcome.

In order to support this vital local service which provides much needed support to so many, we would like our HABE community to work together to help provide a much-needed boost to their food supplies as part of our Harvest Festival.

We are asking our familes and staff to donate some items, even one item, to this worthwhile cause, kindly sending these items in a carrier bag and dropping them in to Main Reception, where they will be stored in a box and taken to a storage area. Our final date for dropping in food items to the Academy will be Friday 1st October. Keep an eye on our social media page (@HarrisBeckenham) for updates on the collection!
